In this 6 part TV series, we feature holiday destinations that you can fly to directly from Ireland, both North and South. Each episode features one main foreign holiday destination and one short local break featuring an Irish destination.
Episode 1 First in series. The popular travel series returns with a brand new presenting team as Joe Lindsay is joined on his travels by writer and broadcaster Angela Scanlon. The series features holiday destinations you can reach directly from Ireland and each episode includes viewer’s tips, recommendations and advice. In this programme, Joe and Angela report from San Francisco, taking advantage of a new direct flight from Dublin. Highlights include a seaplane flight over the Golden Gate Bridge, a GoCar Tour exploring the city’s famous zig-zag streets, hunting out the world’s best vintage shopping opportunities and of course, the old favourites, the sealions at Pier 39. Joe also takes a short getaway to Clare Island off the west coast, where he finds a raft race in progress, tries his luck on a handloom and checks out the rooms in a rather smart lighthouse.
Episode 2 New series of the popular travel show featuring holiday destinations with direct flights from Ireland. This week Joe and Angela are in Istria in northern Croatia to find out what’s on offer. It’s known as a beach destination, but it throws up unexpected surprises in its’ historic towns, and is gaining a reputation as a culinary hotspot. Highlights for Joe and Angela include; a visit to Pula, home of one of the world’s largest ampitheatres, an excursion to the Brijuni Islands, the holiday playground of former Yugoslav leader Marshal Tito, and a sunset boat trip accompanied by acapella singers. Angela also takes a short getaway to County Tyrone where she explores the Ulster American Folk Park, revs up rally driving in the Sperrins and dresses up at the National Trust’s Costume Collection at Springhill.
Episode 3 New series of the popular travel show presented by Joe Lindsay and Angela Scanlon. This week Joe and Angela are taking a city break in Krakow in Poland where they explore the markets and churches in the medieval Old Town, encounter a fire-breathing dragon, and visit the remarkable Salt Mines, where they see a huge chapel carved entirely from rock salt. Joe and Angela also consider the tragic history of the area with a tour of the Schindler Factory and a poignant journey to Auschwitz, the notorious Nazi concentration camp. Angela also takes a short getaway in her hired campervan, Rupert, a vintage VW. Her journey includes the iconic Dark Hedges, the scenic Dunluce Castle, stand-up paddleboarding in Portrush and ends on the glorious Portstewart Strand.
Episode 4 New series of the popular travel show featuring holiday destinations with direct flights from Ireland. Joe Lindsay and Angela Scanlon report from the Spanish island of Majorca to find out why the island is a perennial holiday favourite. They kick off on the beach in Santa Ponsa, a resort hugely popular with British and Irish tourists. Programme highlights include a helicopter ride over the coast, a scenic train journey to the upmarket resort of Soller and a yoga retreat at a Spanish mansion. Joe and Angela also visit an orange grove, see Palma’s “cathedral of light” and pay homage to the island’s pirate heritage, when Angela walks the plank! And in this week’s short getaway, Joe’s in Athlone where he takes a sailing lesson on Lough Ree and explores an impressive new sculpture park in the Lough Boora Parklands.
Episode 5 Joe Lindsay and Angela Scanlon report from Tuscany in northern Italy. They take a tour of the city of Florence, famous for its art, history and culture. They also journey by bike through the Tuscan hills, visit one of Chianti’s vineyards, see the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, explore Lucca, birthplace of the composer Puccini, and try their hand at what else, but pasta-making! Joe also takes a short getaway to Kilkenny where he calls into the Castlecomer Discovery Park, has a bumpy ride trying a new sport, bubble soccer, and fine-tunes his skills on the bodhran.
Episode 6 Last in series. Joe Lindsay and Angela Scanlon are in Canada this week, reporting from Toronto and the surrounding area. Angela kicks off by testing her nerve on the CN Tower’s Edgewalk - one of the highest outdoor walks on the planet. The duo also take an exhilarating boat journey under the world famous Niagara Falls. They also visit the scenic Blue Mountain resort, a destination that’s a weekend favourite for Torontonians. And in this week’s short getaway, Angela’s in Newcastle, Co Down where she finds out why this area has huge holiday appeal, especially for golfers and foodies.
